In summers during grad school, my step-father worked for a wilderness rafting company in Idaho called OARS.  As a child I was lucky enough to go on a few of the reunion trips.  It planted a seed, and in the summer of 2003 I started working for them.  We run the Salmon & Snake rivers in the spectacular Frank Church Wilderness of Idaho (largest wilderness in the lower 48).  It’s beautiful.

Most trips last between 3 and 7 days, and aren’t exactly cheap, but they’re worth every penny.
